Ford Motor Company and General Mills, two companies that have made supporting education a key element of their business, awarded Hillside Catholic Academy in Hillside, NJ. with 200,000 Box Tops for Education® worth $20,000 on Wednesday, February 8, 2012  at a 2 pm check presentation. The school held an assembly where students, administrators, members of the Home and School Association and principal Michael Butchko gathered to receive the award from Stephen Giordano, president of Maplecrest Ford Lincoln.

“Twenty-thousand dollars is going to go a long way in providing our students a better education,” said Michael Butchko. “Initial plans for the money include much-needed new text books, as well as plans to paint the interior of the school.”

Ford dealer Stephen Giordano  presented Hillside Catholic Academy with 200,000 Box Tops for winning the Ford Drives Box Tops Sweepstakes, a two-month program, that aims to generate $1 million in support for schools throughout the U.S. Sweepstakes winners were chosen at random, including Chantelle Mack, a parent volunteer at the school who led the effort on behalf of Hillside Academy.

“I’ve been involved in the Box Tops effort for eight years now,” said Mack. “I’ve seen this program, and our school’s involvement with it grow exponentially. The fact that companies like Ford are getting behind the push for education means the world, and hopefully now even more parents will become involved after seeing such a positive outcome for our children.”

Mack is most excited about the plans to re-paint the schools interior. “We are very excited to give the school a fresh coat of paint,” she said. “A bright interior is meant to stimulate creativity and we want the students to spend their time in a positive environment and be proud that Hillside is theirs.”
